In 2019, the Rugby World Cup will be held for the ninth time. This Rugby World Cup / RWC 2019 will be held in Japan. The tournament attended by sixteen teams will take place in Japan from September 20 to November 2, 2019. There are 12 automatic qualifications to be able to enter into the tournament participants based on the team included in the top three of each group during the 2015 tournament held at English. RWC 2019 is managed by World Rugby which is the governing body of international rugby sports. The competition was first held in 1987 with 16 teams participating, but since 1999 there have been 20 teams taking part. The 2019 Rugby World Cup sets Japan as the host and France as the next host in 2023.

- Pool A: Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Russia, Samoa.
- Pool B: New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, Namibia, Canada.
- Pool C: England, France, Argentina, USA, Tonga.
- Pool D: Australia, Wales, Georgia, Fiji, Uruguay.

The United States solidified its position as an RWC 2019 participant and entered the C team with four other countries. America has played in all Rugby World Cup tournaments, and missed it once, since the inaugural tournament in 1987. The United States is called the second strongest national rugby team in North America, and the third strongest in America after Argentina and Canada.
